Al Ashkarah fishing harbor is about 330 km south of Muscat and on the coast of the Arabian sea. The harbor consists of two breakwaters constructed to form a calm harbor basin for the fishing crafts using this harbor. The Littoral drift along the Al Ashkarah coast causes siltation in the basin as well as in the approach channel. This resulted in a reduction of the depth causing navigational and operational hazards and problems for the vessels using the harbor. The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Oman has appointed Renardet S.A. in association with DHI (Denmark) and ECMA (Egypt) to study the problem and then to develop and evaluate different solutions to the problem.
1) Review of existing reports & drawings
2) Bathymetric and hydrographic surveys
3) Estimating the quantities of sand build-up along the breakwaters
4) Assess the actual quantity of sand accumulated in the area since construction of the breakwaters as well as annual and seasonal littoral drift and directions.
5) Propose the suitable method to reduce or to avoid this phenomenon at the harbor mouth.
6) Obtain approval of the selected option from the concerned authorities
7) Prepare a detailed design of the selected option
8) Prepare the necessary tender documentation and specification to allow tendering for this work
